So you really believe that conservatives/republicans & progressive/liberal/democrats are vastly- radically- different, right?
But how different are they, really?
Both groups seem invested in dictating for you or judging you- in one way or another- regarding what is right, and what is wrong; based on their own subjective belief system. What you should say and what shouldn’t be said… Who you should do business with and who you shouldn’t… How you should conduct business and how you shouldn’t… What kind of union (between consenting adults) is okay or what kind isn’t… Who it’s acceptable to affiliate with and who is not… What is the right way to think and what is the wrong way to think… Who ‘deserves’ certain breaks and who doesn’t… How you should spend your money- and how you shouldn’t… What is right to believe and what is wrong to believe… on and on…
So many people are so invested in what everyone else is doing, thinking, or advocating instead of just doing what they believe is right for them. So many people are so avid about imposing their religious, anti-religious, social order/belief structure on everyone surrounding them- on a national level! No matter what their political affiliation might be.
Is that really what America is all about? The pilgrims weren’t the only group to come to the New World, they were only a part of a much larger movement of people who came here for various reasons; but an underlying motivation was to escape the strictures of the ‘modern’ world and live on one’s own terms, to live as one saw fit.
Before your get your shorts in a wad, don’t start lecturing me about existing laws, though there are areas we could discuss. Cool your jets. We all know that murder is wrong. We all know that theft is wrong. Rape is wrong. Pedophilia is wrong. Imposing your will on another against their will is wrong. Slavery is wrong…
It always strikes me as extremely odd that the same people on one side who say that America was founded on liberty and religious freedom are so quick to condemn others for what they do or don’t believe, and are so willing to define what social norms and even laws should be for everyone…
And on the other side, the people say that the ideals of America are liberty and freedom are so quick to condemn people for believing what they want believe, and are so willing to define what social norms and even laws should be for everyone.
How much sense does that make, really?
Seems to me that there isn’t much difference between the two at all. They both think that have a mandate to impose what they believe to be right on the entire population.
